  2. I had the build your own burger medium, with raw onions and bacon with mustard.

    a. The Patty 4
    b. The Toppings 3
    c. The Atmosphere 4
    d. The Sides 3.5

Mickey's was not ready for 12 people to order all at one time. Their kitchen is smaller than the 3/4 bathroom in my basement. But, what came out (when it did) was good. I enjoyed the flavor very much. Of all of the places we've been, the bun at Mickey's was the best. Nice slightly tough ciabatta bread.

I enjoyed the umami-ness of the sexy fries we ordered as an app.

Overall, a pleasant visit and a great night for the patio.

  3. I ordered The Mickey Burger ... seemed appropriate since they were touting it.

    a. Patty: 3.5
    b. Toppings: 3
    c. Atmosphere: 4
    d. Sides: 2.5

Surprised myself a bit being at the lower end score ... but with the criteria, I gotta stay true. {BTW, Dan says "this is as good as any burger in Madison"} The bun would definitely bring me back -- great texture & flavor.

Small but *clean* kitchen and friendly! Great company. Good crowd, too.

  4. a. The Patty - 2.5
    b. The Toppings - 2.5
    c. The Atmosphere - 3.5
    d. The Sides - 2

I was incredibly underwhelmed by the patty. It was unseasoned, thin and did not fill the wonderful toasted ciabata bun. Unseasoned beef is often good, but it needs to be fresh, not frozen beef to retain flavor, and have enough thickness to impart that flavor. This patty was neither.

I had the Deluxe Burger. The onions were amazing - dripping with butter. The blue cheese was mediocre - not as sharp or pungent as blue cheese should be. It was not real blue cheese, but a dressing that caused a loss of alot of that great blue flavor...

The outdoor patio was wonderful, but filled with flies...

Cole slaw was decent, although it lacked alot of flavor. Vinegar based, which was nice and refreshing - but lacking much vinegar. An extra kick of apple cider vinegar could have made it great.
The Sexy Fries were underwhelming for me. They were chips, not wedges and simply did not appeal to my pallet.

Overall, Mickeys patio was a nice place to hang out and drink some beers. Our large group completely overwhelmed the staff, from waitstaff to kitchen.
Would I go back? Sure - it does not have a black mark.
Will I make a point of returning like I will the Blue Moon? Most likely not.

  5. I ordered a make-your own burger. Here are my ratings.

    a. Patty: 4.5
    b. Toppings: 4
    c. Atmosphere: 4
    d. Sides: 3

The bun was definitely one of the best I have ever had and the patty was cooked exactly as ordered, medium rare. I would definitely rate it in the same group as the burgers prepared at the blue moon.

I'm not much into toppings, but the crispy bacon that I ordered was cooked exactly to my liking.

We sat in the outdoor patio which had a lot more seating area than what could be found inside the bar and was a lot quieter. From the outside it was not obvious that they even had a patio. Most of the tables had a sun umbrella which would provide pleasant dinning regardless of the time of day.

I had the regular chips for a side and they were good. The small portion of coleslaw was not the best that I have ever had but was definitely in the top 10 percentile. I tried the sexy fries that were raved about but they were just so so.

Whereas the cocktails are not a part of the rating game, I felt my domestic bottle beer was at least 5 degrees warmer than I like. Of course this is a personal preference, as the folks in many European countries actually like their beer on the warm side. Yuk. Auf Deutsch, geben Sie mia ein glass bier mit eine heisse gafess dazu. (Ok, my German is rusty.)

All in all the weather was great and our group of a dozen or so had a pleasant time. The bar is not set up to crank out burgers as fast as a Red Robin type of establishment but that is perfectly understandable. It's just a local bar that provides good food as you are enjoying a beer or two. I look forward to going back for one of their burgers.

  6. Jo's post:
Patty--The bun was great. The patty was just so-so as I built my own. 3.5
Toppings--they screwed up my order--wanted the tomato and lettuce on the side...not also the cheese and mushrooms--who doesn't put the cheese on the burger??
    Atmosphere--great company--4.
Sides--Cole slaw was pretty good. 3.5.
